This Sunday I ran my first bridge race! This Cajun girl is not accustomed to hills! I’d never even tried running a bridge before. But when my aunt asked me if I was interested in running the Double Trouble race in Berwick, I signed up for the challenge!
The race is hosted by the Tri-City Track club. Facebook page —->here. Website—->here.
The race started at a park. We ran along a path, then up a bridge, then down the bridge. We looped a little, then ran up it again and down it again. There was a woman at the top of the bridge, cheering people on, holding up this sign:

How hilarious! I would have thought I’d have been ready to jump when I reached the top, but it really wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. It was just slightly more difficult than running on a flat surface. I think riding my bike a lot lately may have made it easier on my legs going up.

I have discovered that my favorite part of running a bridge is running DOWN! Wheee!!!
After the race was over, my aunt and I got someone to take our picture.
I love you, Leslie! She is more like my friend than my aunt. She was a bridesmaid in my wedding.
I even placed first place in my age group!

It was not my best time by ANY means, but I haven’t been running as much since I’ve been having ankle pain.
Overall, the run felt great. It was a beautiful sight looking over the Atchafalaya River. It’s not a sight I am used to seeing. The Double Trouble bridge race is definitely one I would recommend, and I plan to try to do it again next year.
