Running Buddies

Here at Youth Run NOLA we have something called a Running Buddy, which is pretty much exactly as it sounds — an adult runner who pairs with a small group of Youth Run NOLA students and takes to the track, course, path, or street for the race. It’s not mentoring, exactly — if you sign up as a running buddy for multiple races, there’s no guarantee you’ll be paired with the same students time and again — but it is a wonderful opportunity to be a role model. From getting pumped with your group before the race to cooling down and celebrating after, it’s an experience full of camaraderie, positivity, and accomplishment. Whether you run once or many times, as a successful adult who is caring and kind, these kids look up to you — and you have a lot to teach them.

As it turns out, this is all true. But it’s also a bit of a plug, because in the community of men and women who RunLouisiana, I know there must be a few who’d be interested in strapping on those trainers and joining us as a Running Buddy for a special event with Girls on the Run next Saturday, Dec. 10. Pre-race kickoff is at 8:30, race at 9, with food, beverages, music and fun to follow. It’s our last race of the semester, and we’d love to see you!
