On Saturday, April 14th, a sold out crowd of 1,000 reported to the Highland Elementary School in Baton Rouge, La. for the start of the 2012 Fat Boy 5K.
Before the race, there were tents set up by several vendors including Brooks Running, 225 Magazine and more. As the music played over the school grounds, runners stretched and did some last minute prepping.
As expected, the race conditions were slightly warm that morning with temperatures in the low 70s at the start of the race. The Fat Boy 5K out and back course is known for hills that might have your quads considerably weak by the time you make it to the top.
The field was made up of some of the best local talent including last year’s winner, Adam Hoogewind. Adam pulled away early on in the race to secure back to back wins. The first 150 runners were awarded with a Fat Boy 5K mug.
After the race, runners reported to concessions area to indulge in doughnuts by Krispy Kreme, Manda Sausage po-boys and awards.
