Yesterday morning was the Bayou Country Cyclists’ Spring Ride and 5K. This event was held to benefit a local cyclist, Scott Hoppmeyer, who suffered a spinal cord injury last fall.
For information about him, see his website, Scott’s Faith.
The event had several components. There was a 5K run, bike rides in the distances of 25, 42, and 66 miles, and an obstacle course for children. It was held at Peltier Park in Thibodaux. I am SO glad I woke up early and joined the local running/cycling community for a very worthy cause.
The event had a ton of sponsors.
I didn’t get any pictures of the run, but I had a great time doing it. It started right at 7:00 AM. The weather was beautiful.
I did get a few sweaty post-race pictures. This one is of me and my friend Paige, who snagged herself a PR!
After the runners and walkers came in, we were able to watch the cyclists get started. It wasn’t a race for the cyclists, just a ride.
Is it just me, or do cyclists just look really cool in all their gear?
All of the festivities lasted past noon. It was a perfect day to spend out there with family and friends.
One of the race volunteers said the event had already raised $40,000. I hope the Spring Ride/5K will help Scott receive the treatment and rehabilitation he needs.
