After numerous requests to add a list of race dates to the site, the Claim Your Journey Calendar is finally here.
Multiple races are held across the state of Louisiana every weekend, but most of that information is scattered about and difficult to find. By developing the Claim Your Journey Calendar, we would like to create one place for runners in Louisiana to locate races across the state without having to visit multiple sources. The calendar will allow anyone to add a race, provided they login to Facebook or Twitter.
Below, we provide a step by step guide on exactly how the Claim Your Journey Calendar works.
Add a Race
Before you are able to proceed, you are required to login to Claim Your Journey through Facebook. If you aren’t logged in, you will received the message that appears above.
To login, you simply need to select the login to Facebook option on the top right of the website. You may then move to the next step, which is verifying that your race is not already listed.
In order to prevent duplicates from appearing on the site, you’re required to check that your race is not already listed. To do so, you simply need to type in the required information and click the Check button. If your race is not listed, you may continue and enter in the required details about your race.
Submit Your Race
To successfully submit your race, you need to fill out all the fields listed. The only field that is not required is the Hashtag field. A hashtag can be used for Twitter and great to list in your event details. Be sure to fill out the information as accurately as possible, so that runners are not confused.
In race details, we recommend including registration fee, start time, registration link, packet pick up details and any other information that would help someone looking to participate in your race. Be sure to include contact information for the Race Director.
Once you finish with your race details, you’ll need to submit a Race Image or Logo.
Upload a Race Image or Logo
One sure way to separate your race from another is a distinct image that will grab the potential runners attention. For best results, you should upload an image that is 200 x 100 pixels.
If you are unable to create an image that size, upload what you have and utilize our crop tool. Once complete, select submit and you will have successfully added your race to the Claim Your Journey Calendar.

Above is a preview of what a successfully added race looks like. The number of runners is calculated by the amount of people who feel compelled to select the “I’m Running” button.
The social media buttons, Twitter and Facebook, allow runners to share the event with their friends and family. The full race details can be accessed by clicking the Race Image or Logo.
Upcoming Races vs. Popular Races
Two of the unique components of the Claim Your Journey Calendar are the Upcoming Races and Popular Races widgets that appear on the home page.
Upcoming Races gives our audience a snap shot of five upcoming races across the state. Popular Races are slightly more complicated because Facebook likes, number of runners and views play into an algorithm that decides the most popular races in the state.
In the future, we will release widgets to the public to place on blogs and websites.
