I have not posted in forever. Why? I guess because I didn’t know what to write about. I was in a bad spot with my running. It started with the Swamp Stomp Half Marathon in December 2011. What started out as a good race, ended up with a pulled hamstring and a bad attitude. I took it easy after that which was hard because I knew I had the Houston Marathon coming up on January 15th. As I started feeling better, I pushed a little harder. I had a scheduled training run of 21 miles in December which turned into a 12 mile run. January 15th arrives. I’m feeling good. Then as mile 18 approaches, well let’s just say I finished the race but it was not pretty. I watched the minutes add up on my watch as my goal time was no longer obtainable. I stopped to stretch at mile 21 at a medic tent. Bad idea. When it was suggested that I DNF, that’s when the tears started and I refused to not finish that race. On a happy note, the night before the race I went out to eat with Karen – the meal was very good, but disappointing because they did not have bread pudding for dessert.
I will say that during this down time period I was fortunate to have a running friend who was supportive and encouraging and also one who is very inspiring to me. Karen, you know I am talking about you. Thank you!
So here I am today, I feel good and I am excited about running again. A new Go Run training season has started and I am following the training schedule. I am not trying to turn into Speedy Gonzales (although I secretly want to be fast). We are preparing for the Contraband Days 5 Miler on May 12th, and not only am I excited about the race but Claim Your Journey will be there!!! Yeah!!!!! I also must mention that I have met some awesome new running partners! They are the bomb!
AND I did my first “mud run” on March 31st. If you have not done one, it is a must! I had so much fun with Kelli! I want to find another one to do very soon!!!!
Happy Running to everyone out there!!!!!
