This past Sunday, runners gathered in the historic City Park in New Orleans for the 2012 Fat Boy 5k New Orleans. This two year old race saw a significant increase in participation over the Memorial Day weekend with approximately 700+ runners in attendance according to the Race Director, Chuck George.

Many runners will attest that the summer is definitely here in South Louisiana with temperatures in the low 80s before the 8:10a start. Early favorites including Matt Manning, Sean Fitzwilliam, and Ian Carr were among the packed crowd at the start. Before the start, the National Anthem was played in honor of Memorial Day.

The 5k race course took runners throughout the beautiful City Park in New Orleans. Although the start of the race was covered with trees, participant Matt Manning stated that majority of the course was unshaded and made the race a little more difficult.

Although the temperatures were tough to run in, that didn’t stop the runners from posting some awesome times. First place male and overall winner was Ian Carr with a time of 15:57. First place female was Megan Broussard Gohres with a time of 18:52. More race results can be found at Nolarunning.com
