2012 Q50 Bogue Chitto Recap (Video)

On an early Saturday morning, runners headed out to Franklinton, LA for the Q50 Bogue Chitto Trail Run. The race took place at the Bogue Chitto State Park, arguably one of the nicest trails in Louisiana. One highlight to point out is the “water park” to keep cool. This particular Q50 race consisted of two distances for runners to choose from, a 5 mile and a 10 mile race. Surprisingly, most of the runners were signed up to participate in the longer distance.

Cesar Torres is the Race Director for all Q50 races and he certainly has a way of adding his own personal touch and charm to each race. It’s definitely something that anyone participating can remember. Before the race began, Cesar kicked off things with a truly inspiring story and then off everyone went.

One would image that since it’s June, runners would have some trouble in the heat, but not at this race. According to Stephen Barrouquere, the toughest part was the hills. Stephen stated that “The hard part of the Bogue Chitto Trail run is the hills. It didn’t help that I had no idea of the course and elevation. Bogue Chitto unlike the New Orleans area is hilly.”

The top performers at the Q50 Bogue Chitto definitely came out to complete. Matt Manning secure the win of the 10 mile distance with a time of 1:06:30. Lauren Jewett was the overall winner for the 5 mile distance. More results available at Q50ultras.com
