Over the weekend, runners began to arrive at the Bonnett Carre Spillway in Norco, La for the 2nd Annual St. Charles Trail Run hosted by New Orleans Running Systems. The race takes runners through a 3 mile course deep inside the spillway. When asked how accurate the 3 mile course was, Race Director Chuck George stated “it was 3 when we first marked it, i’m not sure now with the trees laying over the course.”
Early in the week, the area experience some scattered showers and thunderstorms, but the course wasn’t nearly as muddy as some would have expected. Some of the top runners like Nick Accardo had no problems navigating the race and stated that “I used the last 800 meters to distance myself from the rest of the field.”
There was a great competitive field with Nick Accardo taking first overall with a time of 17:14. The first place female was Stacy Roberts with a time of 22:28.
This race was also a RRCA Cross Country Championship race.
