Heather Viator – Runner of the Week

Say hello to 43 year old Heather Viator, who is our Runner of the Week. Heather is from Lake Charles, LA and has been running since 2000. Logging 25 – 30 miles a week, Heather started running to lose weight and says, ” I know running is a healthy activity but I also enjoy it. It is a neat thing to take off running and not even realize you have made your mileage because you were totally into the run.” We love that Heather gets lost her in her runs, but make sure you come back to us, we would miss you terribly! Here’s more about Heather as a runnsr…

Favorite place to run? Downtown Lake Charles. I enjoy out of town races – the Gulf Coast Half in Mandeville is a pretty place to run; the Houston Marathon is awesome because of the local support, and the Rock-n-Roll in New Orleans is cool because of the sights you get to see and fun because it is New Orleans!

What shoes do you run in? Brooks Racer ST 5.   I love these shoes! I have also been running short distances in the Mizuno Wave Musha 4.  I love the bright colors of these shoes and they are very comfortable.

Favorite & least favorite workout? My favorite is Saturday morning runs with my friends. We have a good time getting in our miles and talking, and the longer the miles the more delirious the conversations get. My least favorite workout is track.  I am not a fast runner so at the track workouts I really feel like a snail.

What does the voice in your head say when you want to give up? You started this, you can finish it! I had issues this past year at the Houston Marathon and when I heard someone at the Medic Tent suggest that I DNF, I decided then I was going to cross the finish line whether I was running, walking or crawling.

Guilty pleasure? Chocolate chip cookies, and I get the occasional craving for a cupcake or piece of cheese cake.

One piece of training gear you can’t live without? My iPod and Garmin.

Who or what do you look to for motivation? My husband and my running partners are great motivators.   We get up pretty early on Saturday mornings to meet in Lake Charles to run together – our early morning motivational texts to one another are pretty funny… especially when song lyrics are involved!

Pet peeve of other runners or races? In a race, when a group of runners or walkers, stop right in the middle of the road.  ARGH!

Do you have a bad habit? I go out too fast in races.  My husband reminds me before races not to do this but more often than not I forget.

Favorite pre race / workout snack? I have a blueberry bagel with weight watchers cream cheese.

Favorite electrolyte replacement? Purple Gatorade.

Favorite post race / workout meal? Don’t really have a specific favorite.   After a marathon though, a piece of cheese cake or bread pudding is always nice.

In your opinion, what is your biggest achievement? That I have actually been able to complete a marathon.  I will be running the Pensacola Marathon in November and then the Houston Marathon in January 2013 for the 3 time, and I hope many more in the future!

Lifetime goal? To keep running!  And I wouldn’t mind getting to run a marathon in New York, or California, or Paris. (hint hint to my husband.  LOL!)

What’s your secret weapon? Hmmm, if I tell you my secret, then it won’t be a secret anymore!  Although my running buddy Karen knows…
