
2012 BASF Freedom Mile- Baton Rouge, LA
Thanks to BASF and Club South Runners, this years Fourth of July Freedom Mile was another success. The Freedom Mile is a series of point to point races starting with Masters and Grandmasters competition followed by 14 and Under, Open Female, Open Male and ending with a 1/2 mile fun run.
Each race starts 20 minutes apart with Riverside Limousine providing transportation to the start, all you have to do is run back to the finish-line located right in front of the Old State Capital in downtown Baton Rouge. Overall winners of Freedom Mile, Male: Nick Accardo, 29, with a time of 4:33; Female: Kassidy Noto, 17, with a time of 5:50.

Lake Area Runners hosted the 4 Miler on the 4th in Lake Charles, LA on a beautiful 4th of July morning. The race was held at the Lake Charles Civic Center. Despite the humidity and heat, runners enjoyed the festive 4-mile race, and were treated to watermelon following the finish line.
Top Male: Jarrett Leblanc, 22, with a time of 19:34. Top Female: Jeanne-Clair White, 23, with a time of 23:38.

2012 “4 on the 4th”- Covington, LA
There was a large turnout for the ”4 on the 4th” Race, held the morning of July 4th at Hubie Gallagher Park in Covington, LA. For Matt Manning, it was his sixth time running in the race, “I was their to defend my title and extend my win streak to 5 in row,” he says.
Jonathan Thomas took an early lead, while Matt Manning ran alongside Ian Carr, Bryan Mutell and Sean Fitzwilliam. Carr beat Manning at the finish for 2nd Place, with Manning at 3rd Place. Thomas took 1st Place with a time of 20:34. The Top Female Finisher was Rachel Booth with a time of 23:30.
The “4 on the 4th” course route was adjusted to eliminate many of the turns, and the post-race festivities were also changed to replace the pie eating contest for the Budweiser Bikini Beer Mile. Manning concludes, ”The 15th street flyers put on great events, definitely a race to put on your calendar.”
