On Saturday morning, August 18th, 2012, participants gathered in River Ranch for the Free to Breathe 5k.
This inaugural race was put together to provide an opportunity for lung cancer advocates, survivors and the community to come together to raise awareness and support in the movement to defeat lung cancer.
Before the race kicked off at 9am, a small ceremony was held in the courtyard at River Ranch. The lead fund raiser for the event was awarded and additional information was shared about the statistics of Lung Cancer.
The 5k course that was managed by Cajun Road Runners, took runners through the streets of River Ranch. Slight mixup in the course had a few runners finishing from a different direction, but was quickly corrected. Just about 200 smiling faces were seen crossing the finish line. Some participants even had team shirts to represent who they were running for.
Although more of a fun run, the top finisher overall was Buck Foreman with a time of 22:07.
