There was a lot going on this week. Work on the house has been slowing down but I’ve been having company over on a steady basis. Despite the company, and the heat, I’ve been mostly able to stay on track this week and wrapped up a good week of miles.
Monday – 5 miles in 39:35
Tuesday – 7 miles in 53:55 (20 mins at 6:42 pace)
Wednesday – 4 miles in 33:23 and 4x80m strides
Thursday – off
Friday – 5 miles in 39:26
Saturday – 6 miles in 46:51
Sunday - 5 miles in 38.09 (3.1 in 21:09) missed 6 due to storm
Total – 32.1 miles
Monday’s are normally my off day, but a friend was getting her nurse pin Thursday night, so I figured I would swap days. Put in an easy 5 late that night and felt good. Tuesday was my tempo day and I raised my time by 4 minutes. I ran the 20 minute tempo at 6:42 pace, completing 2.99 miles. Alan ran with me and made several comments that my breathing and stride seemed smooth despite the heat and pace. I also did a 2 mile warm-up and cool-down bringing my total to 7 for that day. I had planned on 6 for Wednesday, but the heat at 5 was too much. I settled for 4 miles and finished it with 4×80 meter strides. Friday I ran my normal 5 and felt like death. Another one of those heat-of-the-day runs that I was just glad to get over. Saturday I put in an easy 6, including the 2 I missed on Wednesday. Sunday morning I ran a 2 mile warm-up before RiverCities and then ran the 5K part in 21:09 which I was extremely pleased with. Also had no one pass me on the run, which was a great feeling. I had an easy 6 planned for Sunday night, but the weather had other ideas. A nasty storm rolled in and I was forced to lay low. Probably not a bad thing after the triathlon today, but I still hate missing the miles.
Closing thoughts
Another hot week with some finagling to get my miles in, but that’s just how it goes. I’ve been impressed with the way I’ve been handling the heat and miles so far in this training. I’m wanting to add more strides to help maintain some speed, and add a little hill work to help build leg strength. I’m looking to shake things up a little bit this coming week and try some new things. I’ll also be packing my bags for my trip to Colorado, where I will be running as much as possible.
Check out my blog Running Rabo for my experience at the triathlon yesterday. Post should be up on Wednesday.
