Louisiana Marathon: Week 5

Monday, August 13th, 2012 08:29 am GMT -5 · · Comments ·

Greetings from Colorado!

This was one of the best weeks I’ve had in a long time.  All but one of my runs seemed to click and I put in some good miles.  Also got to run in a couple of new places which can help break up the monotony of training.  I’m excited about putting in some more miles in Colorado and getting some pictures of the awesome places I’ve been running.

Monday – 3 miles in 24:44
Tuesday – 8 miles in 1:04:43
Wednesday – off
Thursday – 12 miles in 1:46:29
Friday – 5 miles in 38:57 (5:54 last mile)
Saturday – 8 miles in 1:08:34 (Childress)
Sunday -  8 miles in 1:07:25 (Colorado Springs)

Total – 44 miles

After a little persuasion from the roommate I put in an easy 3 on Monday even though it was suppose to be my of day.  On the run we watched a tree fall on some power lines and then had a transformer explode right next to us, nothing like a little impromptu speedwork.  Tuesday was my tempo, 24 minutes at marathon pace.  My stomach felt heavy from my supper and it was one of the roughest speed workouts I have done lately.  I covered 3.45 miles at 6:55 pace, which was slightly off the 6:49 goal pace.  I added a warmup and cooldown which brought me to 8 for the day.  I was originally supposed to run 6 on Wednesday, but got caught up doing other things, so I made it my off day.  Thursday I doubled, waking up at 6 to run 3 miles and then putting in 9 after work.  Friday I ran 5 miles and since I felt good decided to close the last mile hard.  I had planned on doing a 6:30 mile but after hitting the half in 3:01, I figured I would try to break 6.  I wound up running a 5:54 mile, which surprised me.  I planned on 4, but wound up running 8 in Childress, Texas.  I got in 8 more in Colorado springs, running on dirt trails, dirt roads, and concrete jogging paths.  The altitude (around 6,000 ft) didn’t bother me unless I was climbing hill, which happened often.

Closing thoughts

Got in an extra 2 miles this week and had some solid runs.  Running up Pikes Peak tomorrow and going to spend the rest of the week enjoying the weather and trails of Colorado Springs.
