Louisiana Marathon: Week 6

Monday, August 20th, 2012 07:59 am GMT -5 · · Comments ·

Started off the week strong, but travel interfered with my schedule towards the end of the week.  However, I still got in a couple of good workouts and I feel rested from the days off.

Monday – 5 miles in 42:42
Tuesday – 12 mile hike up Pikes Peak (7300 ft elevation gain)
Wednesday – 4 miles in 37:26
Thursday – missed
Friday – off
Saturday – 12 miles in 1:40:00
Sunday -  missed

Total – 33 miles

Monday I went out for an easy 5 to loosen up before the hike on Tuesday.  I woke up early Tuesday morning and was on the trail at 6:15.  I had planned on running some of the Barr Trail, but the pack I was carrying weighed a little more than planned.  I hike the 12 miles in 4:42:00, climbing 7300 ft on the way up.  I’ll have a post on my blog, Running Rabo, this Wednesday.  Wednesday I ran an easy 4 and felt pretty good despite the climb.  My calves were sore but didn’t bother me much on the run.  I had planned on doing 8 miles on Thursday, but we drove a lot longer than expected and by the time we got to the hotel it was just too late to head out for a run.  Friday was another long day of travel and my planned off day for the week anyways.  I got in 12 on Saturday with a few friends in Ruston.  The weather was overcast and felt great on the run.  Sunday was one part busy, one part lazy.  By the time I got home it was late evening and I had a lot to do to get ready for work on Monday, so I took the day off.

Closing thoughts

Down a good bit this week and had no speed work in my mileage.  I hate missing workouts and not hitting my goal mileage, but at the same time you have to know when to ease off and when to push forward.  I could have ran Friday and Sunday, but with everything going on, it would have just made things a lot more hectic.  I’ll take the rest I got, and put it towards hard training for this upcoming week.
