“We believe a good day is when we get to run and a great day is when we inspire someone else to run. Motivated by the alarming rise in childhood obesity and the brand’s mission, came the formation of the Saucony Run For Good Foundation. Since the program’s 2006 launch, the Saucony Run for Good Foundation has given nearly a million dollars to over 100 organizations nationwide, all to promote running as part of a healthy, active lifestyle for kids.” – Saucony
For the first time in over 100 years, the lifespan of children is now shorter than their parents. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, lack of physical activity and poor dietary habits are to blame. The Saucony Run For Good Foundation gives kids across the country a running start to a lifetime of good health through community-based programs that support youth-oriented running and fitness activities.
Recently, First Lady Michelle Obama said the fight against childhood obesity is “absolutely vital”. She revealed the sobering statistics: “Nearly one in three of our children in this country is overweight or obese. One-in-three kids today will eventually develop diabetes—and in the African-American and Hispanic communities the number is nearly half.”
Saucony’s Run for Good Foundation continues to combat these startling childhood obesity rates one grant at a time, optimizing the impact and success of community organizations that promote running and healthy lifestyle programs for youth.
