Is it really time for Rock N Roll New Orleans again? That’s the question I asked myself last Friday morning. It seem to have snuck up on us so fast. Just last year we had a booth and a crew prepared to work all weekend long, but this time would be very different. Instead of working the expo, this year I was featured on the Louisiana Legends panel and preparing a special performance.
Around 3p on Friday, I arrived at the convention center in New Orleans and immediately headed towards the Rock N Roll expo stage. I was invited to join the likes of Jenni Peters and Chuck George on the Louisiana Legends panel. But before it was our turn, non other than the awesome Mo Farah was up speaking. After he finished, he was nice enough to let a few of us snap a couple photos with him.
The next day at the expo was going to be quite interesting. You see, myself and a few friends recorded a video a while back called Run Louisiana. One day Jenni Peters pitched the idea that we should perform at the expo. So, after our panel was complete, we rocked the stage in New Orleans. There was a mix of excitement and nervousness, but we were able to pull it off. The audience was even nice enough to give us a standing O!
Although I enjoyed performing on the stage, that wasn’t the highlight of the weekend. Through a friend, I learned that the Yvon Chouinard, Founder of Patagonia, would be speaking at Tulane. It was one of the best keynotes I’ve sat in. Not necessarily because of his skill, but because of the information he was sharing. The main topics he discussed were sustainability and company responsibility. My favorite quote of the night was, “The uneducated person has no choices in life, but when you educated yourself you have choices to make.”
The next morning, I woke up and headed to the finish of Rock n Roll to witness Mo Farah run an incredible 60:59 half marathon. It was simply amazing and inspiring to witness. I was also thrilled to see so many finishers in Claim Your Journey gear. Some of my favorites are below.
