Developing a logo is quite tricky if I do say so myself. You’re creating something out of nothing. You have this blog or brand you’ve just launched, but you aren’t quite sure where it will go or what it is. In order to create a logo for it, you might want to have those answers. Well I didn’t, until one night I got inspired and put my horrendous drawing skills to task to sketch out a logo for Claim Your Journey.
When thinking of the logo for Claim Your Journey, I wanted something simple. My other thought was that I wanted it to represent running and where I was from. The part that came to me first were the shoelaces. I got the idea while listening to some music from popular Rapper Wale. His logo is his name made out of shoelaces (See image above). Outside of rapping, he’s known for his huge sneaker collection. Now you get the shoelaces part. When I think of running, I think of running shoes because it’s the first step to becoming a runner. So this is why I choose to incorporate running shoelaces into the logo.
After choosing to go with shoelaces, I needed to figure out what I would make of them. Now that I had the shoelaces to represent running, who could I represent where myself and where I was from? When I think of Louisiana, I think of our wonderful culture. The music. The food. The football. The people. Throughout the state, the Fleur De Lis a highly recognizable symbol. I figured it would be cool to create a shoelace version that represented running and where I was from. I look several sketches to get something that was worth showing to anyone, but I was able to complete something that was about on par with a Kindergartner’s sketch.
